V-Type Water Seal (V-Ring Seal)

Structure & Working Principle

• Basic structure: A one-piece rubber component with a V-shaped cross-section, a flexible conical lip, and an integral resilient hinge.
• Installation: Stretched over the shaft with an interference fit, secured by its own elasticity; rotates with the shaft and seals axially against a stationary counterface (bearing end, housing, washer).
• Sealing mechanism:
  • The flexible lip applies light, consistent contact pressure to the counterface for effective sealing with low friction.
  • Centrifugal force at higher speeds reduces lip contact pressure, minimizing wear and heat buildup.
  • The lip and hinge compensate for shaft misalignment, eccentricity, and end play.
  • Blocks external water/dust ingress and prevents internal grease/oil leakage.

Common Types

• VA: Standard, most widely used (medium cross-section, broad diameter range).
• VS: Slim profile for limited space.
• VL/VE: For large diameters, high speeds, or special environments.
• VAX/VLX: Reinforced for harsh conditions.

• NBR (Nitrile Rubber): Standard; temp -40°C to +100°C; media: water, oil, grease, air.
• FKM (Fluorine Rubber): High-temp; temp -20°C to +220°C; excellent oil/chemical resistance.
• Pressure: Up to 0.03 MPa (0.3 bar) (standard); up to 40 MPa (multi-lip V-packing).
• Speed: Up to 5–20 m/s (depending on material and design).
• Hardness: Shore A 60–70.
